www.peaceoneday.comBRITISH FILMMAKER JEREMY GILLEY AND JUDE LAW RETURN TO AFGHANISTAN FOR PEACE DAY CALL TO ACTION Jeremy Gilley and Jude Law premiere Gilleys new documentary The Day After Peacein Kabul For Immediate Release Kabul, Afghanistan, September 1, 2008 Peace One Day announced today that Jeremy Gilley, filmmaker and founder ofPeace One Day; and Jude Law, actor and ambassador for Peace One Day, havereturned to Afghanistan after their successful mission last year. Once again, in conjunction with UNICEF and UNAMA, they are making a call to action 21 days before Peace Day, 21 September, an annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence, in order to galvanise the people of Afghanistan to observe the Day. After Jeremy Gilleys and Jude Laws visit to Afghanistan in 2007, the Ministry of Public Health joined by UNICEF, the World Health Organization and local vaccinatorsused Peace Day to carry out a mass vaccination against polio of 1.4 million children.By returning to Afghanistan this year, Gilley and Law hope to continue raisingawareness of Peace Day and stimulate further action on and around the Day. By premiering his new documentary The Day After Peacein Kabul, Gilley hopes toinspire the people of Afghanistan to continue their recognition of Peace Day 21 September. Additionally, Gilley has donated the film for broadcast to a major TV station in Afghanistan to reach as many people as possible. The documentary charts the remarkable 10-year journey taken by the filmmaker to establish an annual Peace Day with a fixed calendar date and shows the practical benefits associated with the Day. The film culminates in life-saving activities that occurred in Afghanistan last year. As a result of Peace One Days work we now have an annual Peace Day with a fixed date, 21 September, adopted by all UN member states, said Jeremy Gilley today, The new film The Day After Peacecharts the creation of Peace Day and goes on toprove that the day can be used as a focus for life-saving activity. At a press conference held today in Kabul, Jude Law added, The extraordinaryevents in Afghanistan around Peace Day last year set an important precedent.
